Probably the most important antiaging secret that you should know about is diet. Your skin can be effected greatly by the food that you eat. Fruits and vegetables can help prevent your skin from showing the signs of aging, due to the antioxidants that they contain.

How to Look 10 Years Younger - 3 Anti Aging Traps to Avoid

If you are trying to look 10 years younger or more, there is no shortage of information or products to help you achieve your goal. Nowadays, it seems everywhere you turn there is some new product or cosmetic procedure claiming to remove wrinkles, restore elasticity, bring back radiance... the list goes on and on.
But before you try that breakthrough product or visit that hot new medical day spa there are 3 anti aging traps you need to know about. Fall into one of these, and no matter what products you are using, you could be undermining your results without even knowing it.

Anti Aging Trap #1- No Passion for Anti Aging or Complete Acceptance of the Aging Process

"Passion for anti aging?" you say. "Of course I have passion for anti aging. Why do you think I spend hundreds of dollars on products and procedures?"
Let's make one thing clear- passion for anti aging and looking 10 years younger has nothing to do with how many products you buy or how many visits you schedule with your plastic surgeon. Passion for anti aging starts in the brain:
For example: Every morning when I wake up, the first thing on my mind is anti aging. I am constantly researching, studying, putting test ideas into practice to stay and feel younger and more vibrant. I thoroughly enjoy it and a day doesn't go by without me thinking about anti aging and trying to look 10 years younger.
Now I know everyone doesn't or even can't wake up with anti aging on the brain. There are kids to get off to school, jobs to go to, bills to pay; the list goes on and on.
But to really achieve any level of anti aging, you do have to have some passion for it.
Why?
Because passion for anything, whether it be looking 10 years younger, losing weight, or getting a promotion starts in the brain. The moment you set your mind to achieve something your brain immediately goes into overdrive coming up with ideas to bring this plan to fruition. Passion is the fuel which drives this process. The more passionate you are about an idea, the higher the probability that you will achieve what you desire.
Unfortunately, anti aging or trying to look 10 years younger or more quickly loses momentum. This is because many people feel there are only a few options to truly stay youthful. Once they start to age, they believe the only options they have are plastic surgery or Botox. Which brings us to the next anti aging trap:

Anti Aging trap #2- Overloading On Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Procedures

I recently met a 48 woman who was obviously addicted to plastic surgery. Her face was smooth, taut and unlined. She had no wrinkles on her forehead, around her eyes or around her mouth. But guess what? She didn't look ten years younger. She looked like a 48 year old woman that had a lot of work done.
Her face was mask-like, even when she smiled. You can see this look on a lot of celebrities (Courtney Cox, Nicole Kidman, Joan Rivers). Maybe that's why some people think it is the best way to fight the aging process. People love to emulate their favorite stars.
Now I'm not against plastic surgery. Compared to only 10 years ago, plastic and cosmetic surgery has come a long way in helping people everywhere to look and feel younger. And perhaps that's the problem. Because it has become so much more affordable it is now the quick fix instead of the last resort. Too much plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures will not make you look 10 years younger. It will however make you look strange, unnatural and like a plastic surgery junkie.

Anti Aging Trap #3 Setting the Bar Too Low

When I ask women what they really want to achieve from all the effort they put into staying youthful, more often than not most of them respond with the following:
"I want to look good for my age."
The only way I know how to respond to this statement is "Why?"
If you truly want to look good for your age, no matter if it's 30, 40 or 50+ then I say go for it. You could probably achieve your goal in a matter of months if you haven't done so already. But know this:
You will never go to a college sporting event and be mistaken for a coed by 4 different students. You won't be able to wear a mini skirt and look "age appropriate". (Sorry to use that phrase. I actually despise it but that's a whole other article.) You will never go for a jog and have 3 seventeen year olds on scooters ask what college you go to.

Why? Because "looking good for your age" is setting the bar way too low. Sure you look good, but only for your age. It's the equivalent of the comment: "you throw pretty good for a girl". You want to look good period. You want to look so good that no one can say you look good for your age because no one can tell how old you are.

I know plenty of women aged 40+ who can and have been mistaken for a college coed. Who still have the ability to pull off a mini and flip flops. And who have 17 year old boys waving to them from their motorcycles and scooters

Now that we discussed the 3 Anti Aging Traps and how easy they are to fall into, let's talk about the good news. Look at the following quote:

"Anti Aging to us is a lifestyle. My wife and I decided a long time ago that we weren't going to age. We were going to eat right, constantly try new things, take care of our bodies. But most importantly, we set our mind to it and I guess we're doing all right."-from a 52 year old man and his 46 year old wife.

This quote came from a married couple I recently met who I had guessed to be in their mid thirties. The man confessed to me that he was actually 52 years old and his wife was 46. I was pretty stunned. Being as obsessed as I am with anti aging, I can usually guess peoples' ages pretty well. So this really threw me for a loop.

This couple looked, walked and talked like they were 35 years old. And a young 35 at that. It was truly amazing and I couldn't stop looking at them.
So how were they able to look at least 10 to 15 years younger? Is it possible that they had some plastic surgery?

They were very open and honest about their beauty regimen and upkeep. They told me they have had "absolutely no Botox". And no plastic surgery. They both have skin peels every six months to rejuvenate their skin. They eat no processed food whatsoever and a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. They exercise 5 days a week, stretch extensively to stay flexible and agile and keep abreast of new innovations in the anti aging industry.

Everything they told me was fascinating and their plan was obviously working for them. But I kept going back to their original quote: "My wife and I decided that we weren't going to age."
That small statement is one of the key reasons why they are able to stay so vibrant and young looking. In their mind, they wouldn't accept the aging process and when they had that affirmation set firmly in their brain that set in motion a life-long plan of fighting aging at every turn. Once that affirmation was solidly in place, everything else that followed became second nature to them.

And that is the true key to anti aging and staying young and vital. Believing with absolute certainty that you can. So stay passionate about anti aging, don't overload on cosmetic and plastic surgery and set that bar way up high. When you avoid these anti aging traps, you'll be surprised how quickly your body and mind respond. You may just wake up a couple months from now looking 10 years younger.

Does an Anti Aging Diet Impact How Long I Live?

How can we be certain that an anti aging diet works? The answer to this question will involve quite a bit of discussion and thought; we will attempt to keep it simple and concise. In brief, the truth that an anti aging diet works involves the following 4 considerations:
1. Determining what is an "anti aging" diet is.
2. Understanding the difference between anecdotal and scientific data and how this relates to the question.
3. Considering the additional factors.
4. Understanding what the data really tell us.
What is an "anti aging diet?"
For purposes of our discussion, we will define an anti aging diet as one that, over time, ameliorates the negative effects of aging. Thus we would expect an anti aging diet to affect, at least in a limited sense, the underlying aging processes and outcome.
What is the difference between anecdotal and scientific data and how does this relate to the question?
We live in a society that generally confuses anecdotal and scientific data. "It works for me," "When I eat this I feel better," and "I ate that and had a bad reaction" are all anecdotal statements. Anecdotal data are information that is gathered on a catch-as-catch-can basis. They are highly subjective data based on our day-to-day observations and experience. The problem is that a) anecdotal data may not be true and b) anecdotal data from one person may not be relevant or true for another person.
Anecdotal data may not be true. Anyone can say, "It works for me," when it doesn't, or "When I eat this I feel better," when they don't, or "I ate that and had a bad reaction," when they didn't. If a person really desires to make a certain point, he or she may well fabricate the anecdote to support their preconception. Whenever someone makes a claim, we should ask, "How do we know that this is a true statement?" In the case of anti aging diets, just because someone supports the claim or declares that the diet has helped them, these claims, in and of themselves, do not establish veracity.
Anecdotal data from one person may not be relevant or true for another person. Even when anecdotal data are true, the generalizations that they support, or attempt to support, may not be relevant. "It works for me, so it will work for you" or "I ate that and had a bad reaction so you shouldn't eat it" are each statements that draw generalizations from the anecdotes. Even if the specific statements are true, the generalization may or may not be; stated differently, the anecdote in and of itself does not prove the generalization (that it will truly impact everyone because it impacted some specific individual).
In contrast to anecdotal data, scientific data are gathered in a planned and appropriate fashion. Planned, in that we have established the experimental plan before hand; scientific data are not gathered in a catch-as-catch-can fashion. Appropriate, in that the data collected are sufficient to substantiate the claim; scientific data, unlike anecdotal data, can be generalized if the foundation of the scientific study is appropriate. Stated another way, scientific data are rigorously planned and statistically appropriate to answer the question at hand. Here are some considerations on using the scientific method to determine if anti aging diets work:
1. People generally (and hopefully, I might add) live so long that it is difficult to plan and execute a prospective study to determine if anti aging diets work. Thus the bulk of data on anti aging diets have been obtained with mice or rats, based on the measurement of factors that are believed to be related to a longer life (eg., better blood pressure, lower cholesterol), or done retrospectively using population statistics to determine if a given factor is important for longevity.
2. The experiment to establish the veracity of an anti aging diet needs to be well controlled, meaning that one set (or cohort) of individuals would be on the anti aging diet while the other cohort would not be on the diet. Again, it is easier to do this using a model animal, such as mice.
3. In the experiment, additional factors that might have an impact on longevity also need to be controlled. The study population needs to be selected or controlled in some fashion such that the data are not confounded by other factors. Again, mice are far easier to control than humans. More on this below.
The Confounding Factors:
Aging is a complex affair and an anti aging diet is only a part of the story in longevity. Other factors, as mentioned below, influence aging and well being. In total, these factors, along with a healthy anti aging diet, should result in a longer life. Here is a condensed list of additional factors:
1. Genetics. Some families are comprised of progeny that live long; others of those that tend to die at a younger age. Other families tend to be composed of overweight individuals, still others of those who are prone to disease, such as heart disease or diabetes. Diet and exercise can influence "bad genes" but these things may not totally eliminate genetic issues.
2. Risk Taking. Some people seem to be driven to take risks and do things that may result in an early death. It is important to have a life that adequately challenges you, but there is a point at which taking risks may not be healthy.
3. Supplement use. There are many vitamins, supplements, and micro nutrients that may well impact how a person ages and even how long that person lives. Many of these may be a part of any well balanced diet but it might be prudent to supplement your diet with supplements.
4. Exercise. Numerous studies have shown that people who exercise tend to live longer and more healthy lives.
5. Relationships. Other studies have shown that people who are involved in daily, meaningful relationships tend to live longer and more healthy lives.
6. Spiritual Life. The items above can be controlled in a study that utilizes mice. It is not possible to do this, however, with regard to spiritual life. Nevertheless, there are retrospective data that support the hypothesis that a person's spiritual life, in general, does impact his or her health and longevity.
What Do the Data Really Tell Us?
For the above reasons, there are few direct, solid, prospective experimental data showing that anti aging diets extend lifespan in humans. Virtually all of the prospective data that directly measures longevity comes from animal models, and animal model data may or may not apply to humans. There are prospective data in humans measuring factors that are believed to be related to longevity and there are much retrospective data from large human populations that seem to indicate that diet, along with the additional factors listed above, do influence longevity. But the statistics and population selection are complex and sometimes difficult to understand for these retrospective studies. Thus, it is easy to rely on anecdotes in our quest to determine if anti aging diets work. This is something that we must resist if we desire to understand what is known regarding anti aging diets and what is mere speculation. Unfortunately, speculation tends to be rampant and truth elusive.

Ditch the Wrinkle Cream: Anti-Aging Properties of Natural Oils, and 5 DIY Formulas

As we age, our natural oil production decreases, creating dry skin that, over time, is less resilient to the constant stretching of our muscles, resulting in wrinkles. Besides eatinghealthy, plant based foods, the logical solution to prevent wrinkles is to simply replace the lost oils! There are plenty of products on the market that claim to do just that. But pick up any bottle of the latest anti-aging or wrinkle cream and read the ingredient list; if you aren’t shocked by the difficult-to-pronounce-or-identify ingredients, then you just might be shocked by how many ingredients there are!
Our skin is the largest organ in our body and the first barrier of defense against bacteria, viruses, and disease. Natural oils are lipophilic, which means they slip easily and quickly right into the lipid layer of the skin, trapping water and moisture inside. Many commercial wrinkle creams contain oils, but those oils are mixed with chemical fragrances and other toxic ingredients that hitch a ride right into that lipid layer. Rather than be boosted by the supplemental oils, your body now must spend energy combating those toxic intruders!
Natural oils contain nothing to cause the immune system alarm, can be absorbed safely, effectively, and retain moisture. Plus, the nutrients and proteins in essential oils actually encourage cell-regeneration and won’t clog pores! Why spend excessive amounts of money on counterproductive poisonous commercial creams when you can make your own safe and effective recipes at home? Here are 5 DIY Anti-Aging Serums that contain natural oils to prevent and combat wrinkles:

1. Rosehip & Carrot Seed Facial Serum

You’ve likely heard the term Retinol tossed around in skincare advertisements. That’s because retinol is a form of Vitamin A, which is highly antioxidant, great at repairing damaged tissue, and reducing scars and wrinkles. Rosehip seed oil is especially high in retinol, as well as omega fatty acids, and the potent antioxidants lycopene and beta-carotene.
Carrot seed oil is packed with vitamins and nutrients, most important of which are carotenoids. Carotenoids can boost the body’s immune response to UV rays, which makes it excellent at preventing sun damage. Carrot seed oil also detoxifies and stimulates the rejuvenation of cells.
This great recipe combines both these amazing oils to create a fantastic moisturizing serum for mature, dry, or damaged skin.

2. Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream

This Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream recipe is thickened with beeswax, so if you choose not to use bee products, you can substitute with any of these natural waxes.  In addition to rosehip and carrot seed oils, this cream uses apricot kernel oil. Apricot kernel oil is high in gamma linoleum acid, which helps balance moisture levels in the skin. It’s also full of vitamins A & E; both super skin rejuvenating. It’s easily absorbed and non-greasy.

3. Eczema Cream

Worse than wrinkles are dry scaly patches caused by eczema! If you suffer from this common skin condition (or even if you don’t) you’ll love the hydrating and repairing power of this great DIY cream. It contains only four ingredients, one of which is geranium oil. Geranium oil is astringent, which means it tightens the skin, reducing sagging. In addition to stimulating cell regeneration, it’s antibacterial — great for those prone to acne!

4. Coconut Whipped Body Butter

Coconut oil is readily available and very popular right now because of its ample benefits to skin and body. It’s a natural, easily absorbed moisturizer that is solid at room temperature. Coconut oil can protect from free radicals and delays wrinkles and sagging skin. When whipped in a stand mixer, this delicious body butter is silky smooth, and can be used on the face as well as the body.

5. Olive Oil Cleanser and Moisturizer

Many natural oils can be used to clean skin as well as moisturize, as is the case with this simpleOlive Oil Cleanser and Moisturizer recipe. And olive oil is highly anti-inflammatory, making it ideal for sensitive or acne riddled skin. It protects against free radicals, as well as having antimicrobial properties.
Give some of these recipes a try, and let us know how it goes!
